What palisade is for

Palisade is a security fence. Vertical galvanised steel pales, W or D profile, bolted through horizontal rails, mounted on concrete-set steel posts. Standard heights 1.8m, 2.4m and 3.0m. Standard finish hot-dip galvanised, optional polyester powder-coat in green, black or the customer's spec colour on top. It is what you use where a timber closeboard is not going to hold up: commercial premises, storage yards, plant compounds, the back of a Westwood industrial unit.

Broadstairs commercial pattern

The main palisade market in Broadstairs is Westwood: the retail park behind Westwood Cross has a mix of B1 and B8 units where palisade is standard specification. The other pattern is small commercial premises in St Peter's and along the old rail corridor: paddocks, small workshops, storage yards. Broadstairs town centre itself does not really do palisade, which is a good thing.

Materials and hardware

Hot-dip galvanised steel is the salt-air answer. Zinc-plated palisade rusts through in three to five years within sight of the sea. Hot-dip galv gives you 25+ years. Powder-coat finish adds another decade of aesthetic life on top of the galv. Fixings should be A2 stainless bolts, not galv coach bolts, on any coastal run.

£120 to £180 per linear metre supplied and fitted, depending on height, powder-coat spec, and gate integration. Gates in matching palisade run £900 to £2400 for pedestrian, £2000 to £5000 for a driveway sliding gate. Fixed quote after site visit for anything over 20 metres or with automation.

Access and timing

Palisade needs concrete-set posts and mechanical handling to lift the sections. Access is the pacing item on tight-in units: we sometimes need a HIAB or a small crane on a Westwood industrial site. Timing is typically two to five days for a standard commercial run once the concrete has set.
